Hawkins Has Her Way, #5 Terps Take Care of Loyola

Tianna Hawkins scored a career-high 33 points and secured 13 rebounds as the #5 Terps’ routed Loyola 88-45 at Reitz Arena in Baltimore Sunday night.
Hawkins recorded 26 of her points before halftime on the way to her second straight double-double to begin the season. Junior Alicia DeVaughn added 16 and Tierney Pfirman scored 13 in the second game of her college career.
Eight different Terps scored at least three points and head coach Brenda Frese played all nine healthy players in a game where Maryland led 41-25 at intermission. By comparison, 14 Greyhounds saw the court as head coach Joe Logan tried to find an effective combination.
The rebounding margin was even wider, with Maryland pulling down 55 boards as opposed to Loyola’s 18.
Katie Sheahin, the 2011-2012 MAAC Player of the Year scored 19 to lead the way for Loyola. The Greyhounds were able to keep it close early, leading 11-9 after a Kara Marshall 3-pointer.
